THE STORY OF SHEIKH ALI TANTAWI DESCRIPTIVE AND ANALYTICAL STUDY

Sheikh Ali al-Tantawi is considered the pioneer of Short Stories in Syria. He has two collections of Narratives: The First, “Qisas min Al-Tarikh“(Stories from History) and the other,“Qisas min Al-Haya (Stories from Life). He has also written children’s stories entitled” Hikayat min Al-Haya” (Tales from History) which consist of seven tales as well as an independent story in a bookentitled” QisaKamla Lam Yualifha Bashar” (A Full story not written by mankind). It is noticeable in the Sheikh’s stories that they were inspired from Arab history books and the work of writers that precede him. Furthermore, the texts in his stories contain elements from religious heritage (The Holy Quran and the Prophetic Hadith), eloquent poetry and wisdom. The Sheikh’s ability to summon these texts and invest them in multiple forms of historical, religious and poetic work is one of the manifestations of intertextuality. This research aims to address the phenomenon of intertextuality in a selection of Sheikh Ali al-Tantawi’s stories to reveal his creativity and innovation and how he applies Intertextuality in his narratives. The research stems from the theory of intertextuality, which recognizes the existence of ancient texts in the new post-text and the impossibility of the texts to become independent of one another. Most researchers in recent studies consider that the separation of the text from its past and future renders the text futile.
